About the Company
Rooted in Wyandanch, built on service.
Founded in 1925 at a meeting of the Wyandanch Athletic Club, the Wyandanch Volunteer Fire Company brought organized fire protection to the northern part of the Town of Babylon for the first time. From a single Model T fire truck to a modern multi-station fleet, our mission has never changed: protect lives and property through rapid response, training, and prevention.
Today our volunteer firefighters serve alongside the Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corp to keep the community safe around the clock.

Our History
A century of answering the call.
Nearly 100 years of volunteers, milestones, and apparatus — built one call at a time.
- 1925
A company is born
Founded at a meeting of the Wyandanch Athletic Club. Edward Mason — “the George Washington of the fire company” — served as first President for 34 years. The company began with 25 charter members and a used Model T Ford fire truck.
- 1928
Officially chartered
Incorporated by the State of New York, formalizing fire protection for the northern part of the Town of Babylon as Fire Protection District Thirteen.
- 1929
First firehouse
The company's first firehouse opened on Straight Path at South 17th Street, giving Wyandanch a permanent home for its growing volunteer force.
- 1955
Modern apparatus
Following Mack apparatus acquired during the war years, the company purchased a Diamond T pumper equipped with a high-pressure fog system.
- 1959
Headquarters station
A new firehouse was built adjacent to the original location on Straight Path — still the company's main station today at 1528 Straight Path.
- 1964
A second station
A second firehouse opened on Main Avenue between North 21st and North 22nd Streets, expanding rapid-response coverage across the community.
- Today
Always ready
A century on, Wyandanch's volunteers answer the call around the clock — firefighting, rescue, and prevention — alongside the Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corp.
